I was told about it by family members.
Why did you join VoluntEars?
I was invited to join to support a relative who was travelling.
Why did you choose the Morocco trip?
The short trip duration meant I could fit it in with my work and I love this destination.
What were you looking forward to?
Spending time with family and having a new experience.
Were you worried about anything before the trip?
Not understanding enough sign language.
What words would you use to describe your experience in Morocco?
Amazing, emotional, fun.
What was your funniest or most memorable experience?
Funniest, were the random conversations, my nephew doing snake charming, and the Berber men in national costume swamping us with their hats. Most memorable was seeing how my nephews interacted with other people and enjoyed this experience.
What did you enjoy the most on the trip?
Being with such a fantastic group in such an amazing place. Going to the school and making Moroccan biscuits, doing activities with the children.
How do you think you benefitted from the experience?
This has totally opened my eyes to what is needed, and what is possible, when levelling up holidays to make them truly accessible for people with hearing loss.
What did you like about the VoluntEars trip?
It was right in the heart of Marrakech, it felt like an authentic Moroccan experience. Everything was extremely well organised, with a sense of calm. It was incredibly reassuring. I loved the group and the facilitation of communication which meant we could really enjoy each other’s company.
How could we make the trip better in the future?
Arrange WiFi in the dessert!!!
