How did you discover VoluntEars?

Through a former employee who went on Sri Lanka trip.

Why did you join VoluntEars?

To find my confidence after being diagnosed with Usher Syndrome.

Why did you choose the Peru trip?

I wanted to challenge myself and it’s been a dream to go to Peru!

What were you looking forward to?

Seeing the best of Peru.

Were you worried about anything before the trip?

Was worried about the altitude due to having asthma and sharing room with strangers 😅

What words would you use to describe your experience in Peru?

The trip to Peru was ‘Inca-redible’! Volunteering at the deaf school was heartwarming. Seeing Cusco, Sacred Valley, Puno, and Machu Picchu were ‘Llamazing’! The organisation was top-notch and cannot praise highly enough on the lovely bunch of inclusive people who “Quechua” back anytime 😊. “Deafinitely” an ‘Andean-able’ experience from start to finish – Im glad I “signed” up!!! 🥰 🤟🏾 Highly recommend VoluntEars to take you to new heights!”

What was your funniest or most memorable experience?

Too many memorable moments to choose from, especially loved my time with the kids and how energetic they were….completely different to what I’m used to haha!

What did you enjoy the most on the trip?

I enjoyed the boat trip as could feel the Jack Sparrow in me loving every moment being on open water (despite me being unable to swim).

How do you think you benefitted from the experience?

I feel my confidence has grown and ability to socialise has improved (slowly) and I proved to myself I could do a big trip like this and ready for more!

What did you like about the VoluntEars trip?

The fact that VoluntEars put a lot of thought into everything made it easier to enjoy myself and not have to overthink/worry about anything and really grateful for all the support VoluntEars and group gave me and how inclusive it was for me as a deaf and blind person, thank you!

Would you join another VoluntEars trip?

Yes.
