How did you discover VoluntEars?
Family Member.
Why did you join VoluntEars?
To try something new with other deaf individuals.
Why did you choose the Morocco trip?
Matched my work holiday allowance and appetite to experience a different culture.
What were you looking forward to?
Meeting other deaf people.
Were you worried about anything before the trip?
I didn’t really know what to expect from (a) the volunteering and (b) our accommodation.
What was your funniest or most memorable experience?
Our time in the desert was very special.
What did you enjoy the most on the trip?
Getting to meet different people. I also really enjoyed navigating around Marrakesh. I want to give Richard [VoluntEars Director] a big thank you for making us feel so comfortable and safe.
How do you think you benefitted from the experience?
I had reassurance that there are others “like me” and I had a renewed sense of urgency to find a community like it. I think exploring an Arabic country gave me insight into a culture very different to the UK.
What did you like about the VoluntEars trip?
I loved the level of organisation, the use of local restaurants and cafes, and having interpreters to help us communicate with BSL users on the trip.
