How did you discover VoluntEars?
Facebook.
Why did you join VoluntEars?
I wanted to experience travelling with other deaf people and having communication support available to me whilst abroad.
Why did you choose the Everest Base Camp trip?
I love the mountains and with Snowdonia on my doorstep, I have wanted to try hiking abroad for a while. When I saw the trip advertised I knew it had to be that one! it would be too good an opportunity to miss.
What were you looking forward to?
Seeing the Himalayas, experiencing the culture in Nepal and meeting new friends.
Were you worried about anything before the trip?
My ability to complete the challenge and safety (earthquakes etc).
What was your funniest or most memorable experience ?
There are far too many I laughed every day! Reaching Base camp was exhilarating and the day/ evening in Namche during the descent.
What did you enjoy the most on the trip?
The beauty of the Sagamartha National Park and the company of such an awesome group of people.
Was it different to what you expected in any way? Please describe.
It was even better than I expected. It was very vivid in every sense, the colours, the warmth of the people and how beautiful the country is, the crispness of the air. They were big big big mountains, and it made Wales look so small!
How do you think you benefitted from the experience?
I have made some really good friends that I have kept in touch with, the memories make me smile a lot, and its given me the confidence in myself that I can physically and mentally achieve a challenge like that.
What did you like about the VoluntEars trip?
Everything.
How could we make the trip better in the future?
I wouldn’t change anything!
