What words would you use to describe your experience in Sri Lanka?
Educational, rewarding, and memorable!
How do you think you benefitted from the experience?
I have gained a lot from this experience. Travelling alone and using international sign language to communicate with the children and a fellow peer has boosted my confidence.
I have learned about their culture and way of life and have seen beautiful, unique places like temples, forests, and beaches that I will never forget.
What did you learn?
I have learned how to renovate parts of a building, cook different Sri Lankan curries and roti, and play Sri Lankan games.
What did you like about the VoluntEars trip?
I had the opportunity to experience various locations, immerse myself in Sri Lankan culture, and support deaf children while participating in renovation work.
What did VoluntEars do well?
They organised the weekly schedule well and made sure we were aware of any changes or issues. Having the transportation organised for us to and from the airport, as well as arranging all the different places we visited, was very beneficial!
What was your funniest or most memorable experience?
I would say that doing activities with the Sri Lankan children was the most memorable experience!
