What did VoluntEars do well?
“VoluntEars did extremely well in supporting us both before and during the trip, they were very quick to answer my emails and were extremely friendly and approachable during the trip. This made me feel very at ease and in safe hands when in Sri Lanka.”
What did you like about the VoluntEars programme?
“I really liked how well supported I felt on the trip, Richard and Blanche did a great job in checking we were all sorted with the things we needed on the trip and ensuring that everything ran smoothly. I also liked the balance of renovation work and sightseeing, it was definitely an optimal mix of the two which meant it wasn’t too exhausting.”
What did you learn?
“I enjoyed learning about Sri Lankan culture and particularly enjoyed the cooking lesson – I was inspired to reproduce the pineapple curry and roti recipes when I got back home to the UK! More generally, I have learned to be more confident in my abilities eg. my artistic skills.”
How do you think you benefitted from the experience?
“I have hugely benefitted from travelling independently to a different country, and from working with and getting to know new people; it has built my confidence.”
What words would you use to describe your experience in Sri Lanka?
“Unique, amazing, rewarding, insightful.”
What was your funniest or most memorable experience?
“My most memorable experience would be visiting the elephant orphanage and being so close to the elephants. It was also lovely to see them being bathed in the river, the scenery around them was beautiful and it gave me such a warm feeling.”
