“A great mixture of volunteering, cultural visits and sightseeing.”

What did VoluntEars do well?

“Making sure the group connected as everyone was ‘deaf aware’ and providing a communicator. Any problems anyone encountered VoluntEars staff was on to it straight away.”

How do you think you benefitted from the experience?

“It was a great opportunity to volunteer overseas and live life closer to the Sri Lankan culture. A total contrast to staying in a hotel.”

What did you learn?

“Customs and cultures vary all over the world and should be observed and respected.”

What was your funniest or most memorable experience?

“Playing water balloons with the deaf children; they all wanted to get wet really. Letting the turtles free on the beach to swim into the ocean was totally amazing.”
