“Increased knowledge, confidence and more engaged with other cultures and customs.”
What did you learn?
“I learnt so many things about Sri Lanka: learnt to cook curry and rotti, learnt about festivals, religion such as Buddhist, and learnt how British Empire used Tea plantations, Sri Lanka language, how to look after endangered sea turtles.”
What did you like about the VoluntEars programme?
“Making new friends and I liked the fact they can use BSL to communicate with me easily. I liked learning Sri Lankan sign language which helped me to communicate with deaf students. There were so many different fascinating activities everyday.”
What did VoluntEars do well?
“The atmosphere was so lovely and caring that I felt safe and welcome in Sri Lanka. It was great to try out different activities each day to learn more about its cultures and customs. The BSL interpreter was extremely helpful if I missed anything.”
How can VoluntEars improve?
“I can’t really think of anything honestly!”
