What words would you use to describe your experience in Nepal?

“Very interesting, inspiring, hard work but very enjoyable, eye opening.”

How do you think you benefitted from the experience?

“Feel more confident to travel to ‘less developed’ nations and hopefully contribute in even a small way. My first experience of ‘proper trekking’ , which will definitely be repeated!”

What did you learn?

“About Nepal’s history and their current struggles. I expected some of the deaf children to have at least basic hearing aids but saw very few. I learnt the need to get aid/support direct to the people rather than via government.”

What did you like about the VoluntEars programme?

“The 3 different weeks was great. I liked having the same organiser (Richard Clowes) with us all the time and also Wrishika’s local knowledge [VoluntEars local staff] and input was great.”

What did VoluntEars do well?

“Took the worry/stress out of the whole trip by dealing with any questions/problems immediately. Kept us all well informed of plans during the trip. Supported the students/volunteers with infinite patience and good humour. Thought ahead and were flexible if plans needed to change. The hotels chosen were very good. Particularly the one in Kathmandu that was very friendly and welcoming. The trekking team were excellent with a lot of support for the students.”

What was your most memorable experience?

“Mountains emerging from the clouds while at top of Poon Hill.”
