How do you think you benefitted from the experience?
The trip made me more aware of the difficulties that D/deaf people in other countries face. It made me thankful for the services we have here, especially our education system. I am thankful I went on the trip as I have made some amazing memories and met some lovely people.
What did you learn?
I learnt lots about Nepali culture, the Nepali D/deaf people and the education system over there. I learnt lots about DIY too!
What did you like about the VoluntEars programme?
I liked the family vibe the group gave off, I never felt left out or homesick despite being one of few hearing members in the group. VoluntEars staff were very accommodating and couldn’t help more. Charlie the interpreter was amazing.
What did VoluntEars do well?
Communication was really good with VoluntEars, the organisation of the trip was amazing and the schedule was kept to so we got the most out of 2 weeks.
