Why did you join VoluntEars?
Loved the fact that Voluntears provides opportunities for the deaf/hard of hearing
Why did you choose the Nepal trip?
Always wanted to see the high Himalayas – friendly reputation of the Nepalese people
What were you looking forward to?
Working in the school/ the trek
Were you worried about anything before the trip?
Whether would be fit enough to trek!
What words would you use to describe your experience in Nepal?
Challenging. Humbling, sooooo much fun! Outstanding!
What was your funniest or most memorable experience?
Climbing Poon Hill on a perfect morning! The leeches first night of the trek! [leeches only available in summer]
What did you enjoy the most on the trip?
Hard to choose – loved everything the school, the volunteers, the trek , Richard and Steph! [Richard Clowes is the VoluntEars Director, Stephanie Dennison was the Communicator]
How do you think you benefitted from the experience?
Challenged on many levels – communication with volunteers and school with limited signing skills and loved the support given to get better. Physical challenge of the refurbishment in very hot conditions and on the trek – I am stronger than I thought! Overcoming (partly – haha) my morbid fear of wriggly things – leeches will never be my friend! I left this trip with renewed enthusiasm for my job (audiologist) and for all that life has to offer in general – it was ace!
What did you like about the VoluntEars trip?
Absolutely everything – the country the people the school the volunteers – A Voluntears trip offers people of all ages from very different backgrounds the opportunity to enjoy a unique and chalenging experience, – personally I can’t wait to do another one!
How could we make the trip better in the future?
Not much – somehow I didn’t pick up that we would be in the classrooms teaching the kids a few times – I wasn’t well prepared for that although it worked out well in the end.
