How did you discover VoluntEars?
Online as I searched deaf volunteering, and on Instagram.
Why did you join VoluntEars?
Looked like an amazing opportunity to be able to help/give back to society and to explore with other people that are aware of deafness.
Why did you choose the Nepal trip?
Wanted to experience the Nepalese culture, and to work with deaf children in a school looked amazing.
What were you looking forward to?
Visiting Pokhara and meeting deaf students.
Were you worried about anything before the trip? If so, what?
I was worried about the Poon Hill Trek with how cold it would be and fitness levels.
What words would you use to describe your experience in Nepal?
Amazing, beautiful, eye opening and emotional.
What was your funniest or most memorable experience?
The yellow school bus to the deaf school, and evening meals with everyone as we went to places that were hidden and I would typically never go to, but they were all amazing and safe!
What did you enjoy the most on the trip?
Hard to choose one moment, but talking/ signing with the deaf children and everyone and of course the trek!
How do you think you benefitted from the experience?
I feel blessed to have grown up where I did, with support with my hearing. The trip made me aware of deafness in Nepal. I also feel more confident to explore different cultures.
What did you like about the VoluntEars trip?
How organised and supportive Richard Clowes [VoluntEars director] and the VoluntEars group were! How much we all laughed, and all explored our own comfort zones in a safe and encouraging space.
How could we make the trip better in the future?
Nothing really, it was all amazing!
